Course Description

The presentation will provide an overview of the numerous tests available to evaluate auditory processing skills.  There is no gold standard for testing, leading audiologists to select, and create, their own test batteries.  This presentation will go over the available validated test assessments and critically analyze them.  Case studies will be included to provide examples of various test collections.  There will be discussion on how to interpret results and create appropriate recommendations.

 Course Objectives

As a result of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Interpret auditory processing test assessments to incorporate into practice
  • Describe how auditory processes manifest differently across patients.
  • Define the meaning of auditory processing and how it relates to children and adults.
  • Develop strategies to successfully make appropriate recommendations for these patients.

Audience: Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists

Biographical Information:

Donna Merchant: Donna Merchant, AuD, CCC-A is the current President of the New Jersey Academy of Audiology.  She also serves on the Audiology Planning Committee for the New Jersey Speech-Language Hearing Association annual convention.  She has been the owner of New Jersey Hearing Health Center, in Brick, NJ, for over 30 years. She is a certified teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing and a certified teacher of the Handicapped, as well as, a state licensed, ABA certified, audiologist.  Dr. Merchant covers audiological needs in the classroom for children in multiple districts throughout the state of NJ.  She frequently lectures on topics related to educational audiology and auditory processing disorder.

Financial — Dr. Merchant is receiving a stipend for this talk.

Nonfinancial — Dr. Merchant demonstrates expertise in the area of auditory processing for audiologists and SLPs.
